Three club mega-trade looms as Eagles get involved in Horne-Francis deal

Day three of the AFL trade period has wrapped up with Geelong emerging as big winners and a monster three-way deal floated.

The Cats have won the race for Jack Bowes and the Suns’ No.7 draft pick, while North Melbourne, Gold Coast and St Kilda added players in completed trades.

Monster three-way trade involving JHF and pick 2 on cards

A massive three-way deal involving North Melbourne, Port Adelaide and West Coast has been discussed as talks around Jason Horne-Francis ramp up.

According to multiple reports, the proposed trade would see the Kangaroos end up with picks 1 and 2, Horne-Francis and Junior Rioli join the Power and the Eagles land multiple picks in return.

West Coast would effectively split their pick No.2 for Port Adelaide’s No.8 and their future first-rounder, while sending Rioli to the Power.

But the Roos will likely want more than just pick No.2 in return for Horne-Francis.

Saints hard nut join Suns

Ben Long’s move to Gold Coast has been made official.

St Kilda received pick No.32 in exchange for the tough defender and a future fourth-round pick.

Long, who recently turned 25, has played 79 games since his debut in 2017.

Rankine deal edges closer

Izak Rankine will be a Crow by the end of Thursday, according to 7NEWS reporter Theo Doropoulos.

The Suns are expected to get pick No.5 as the centrepiece of the trade with some potential later pick exchanges also involved.

Rankine will join Adelaide on a massive contract worth a reported $800,000 a year.

Lion set to be traded to Suns

Brisbane’s Tom Berry has joined Gold Coast with the two clubs agreeing to a trade.

The Suns will hand over picks 25, 36 and 56 in exchange for Berry, 46 and a future second-round selection.

Berry has played 20 games in three years with the Lions and is the younger brother of Jarrod.

The trade gives the Lions more picks as they look to facilitate trades for Josh Dunkley and Jack Gunston, and keep enough draft capital to match bids on father-son pair Will Ashcroft and Jaspa Fletcher.

Will former Demons unite at West Coast?

Jayden Hunt is trying to convince Luke Jackson to join him at West Coast.

The former Demon sealed his move to the Eagles as an unrestricted free agent and is holding out hope Jackson might follow him.

Jackson has requested a trade to Western Australia and while Fremantle are considered the frontrunners, the Eagles are not giving up hope.

“I don’t think it will be me that gets him over the line, but you never know,” Hunt told Trade Radio.

“I kept telling him ‘I’d love to have you by my side.’”

Hunt also said a chat with Eagles coach Adam Simpson was one of the main reasons he decided to join the club on a three-year deal.

“He spoke to me about a more attacking style, which is one of the reasons they got me across,” Hunt said.

“It’s really happened the last few weeks. West Coast came to the party. A good opportunity for a fresh start, a new state with a team that’s hopefully on the improve.”

Eagles put pick No.2 on the table

West Coast are testing the waters with pick No.2, according to News Corp.

The Eagles are not giving up on Luke Jackson with pick No.2 likely to be involved in trade discussions with Melbourne if the gun ruckman is open to joining the club.

But even if Jackson opts for Freo then the Eagles are open to splitting their pick 2 to bring in more young talent.
